Onetangi beach is a long soft sandy beach with three good restaurants
Whakanewha regional park
Whakanewha, which means 'to shade the eyes from the setting sun', offers sheltered swimming on a long, sweeping beach with a panoramic bush-clad backdrop. A great place for a picnics with quiet benches almost unknown to tourists. Dogs are not permitted on this beach. The Lodge adjoins the park.
Casita Miro - quirky and delicious
Specialising in Tapas, Casita Miro is a different restaurant with lovely indoor and outdoor dining just a short drive from the Lodge. At the moment they have the "Love Lunch Winter Menu Special - Monday, Thursday & Friday - Choose two dishes from their 'Tapas' menu with either a glass of Miro Albarino or Summer Aphrodisiac for $45.
On the Te Ara Hura Track
The Waiheke Lodge is on the Te Ara Hura Track which runs around Waiheke (red line). You can walk or mountain bike ride all around Waiheke from the Lodge. Many tracks are shared with mountain bikes. The Waiheke Mountain Bike Club website has lots of information to help you plan your trip.
The Waiheke Explorer Bus
Take a tour of Waiheke on the Waiheke Explorer Bus which stops at the Batch Winery next door to the Lodge. You can hop on or off any any point so why not combine arriving or leaving with a tour of the Island ? Tours start at 9.50am from Matiatia and run every 30 minutes until the last drop off at Matiatia at 6.40pm.
Fly straight from Auckland, Ardmore, North Shore or any NZ airport directly to the private airfield adjacent to Waiheke Lodge, either in your own fixed wing aircraft or helicopter or by charter. The private grass airstrip is by appointment only, very quiet and does not operate after sunset.
